Need a Quick Detox to Get Healthier?

Fiji WaterA few times per year it is a good idea to give yourself a few days of detoxification. Even if you are a relatively healthy eater, your digestive system will appreciate a few days off from the intensive process of digestion. Did you know that 20-50% of the energy that we use during the day is burned up just to digest all the foods that we eat? What if we were able to shift some of that energy to healing our bodies? That is precisely the mind-set you should have when you decide to do a quick detox. Here is a simple plan that we use at BTF. This is a 7-day program that will help you get healthier. You will probably lose some body weight and fat on this plan. If you are used to eating processed foods you could experience headaches and some minor body aches while doing this detox. If you experience a significant feeling of light-headedness during this detox you should discontinue immediately. We do not want you to faint and hurt yourself! Before starting a detox program, make sure to check with your doctor, especially if you are being treated for a disease, taking medications or are pregnant.

Day 1 – Eliminate all processed foods. Processed foods include anything that comes in a package or container that has an ingredient list that contains more than 1 ingredient. Eat as much whole foods as you need to feel satisfied.

Day 2 – Eliminate all cooked foods. All the foods that you eat must be raw. Do not eat foods that would be unsafe to eat raw (most meats etc.). Eat as much raw whole foods as you need to feel satisfied.

Day 3 – Eat only raw fruits and vegetables. Eat as much raw fruits and vegetables as you need to feel satisfied.

Day 4– Drink only raw fruit and vegetable juices. Drink as much raw juice as you need to feel satisfied. If you don’t have a juicer at home you can buy raw juices at Whole Foods Market, Jamba Juice, Robek’s or most other juice places in your neighborhood.

Day 5– Water only fast. Drink as much pure water as you feel you need.

Day 6– Repeat of Day 2. Eat any raw food that you want.

Day 7– Repeat of Day 1. Eat any whole food, cooked or raw, that you want.

If you want to try this for 14 days, simply do each day twice. Don’t worry, the 2 day water only fast isn’t as hard as you think!
